Those who have read my blog or have heard me speak know that I tend to rant against the “apply online and hope” approach to a job search. Along those lines, my wife forwarded me this article from Fast Company where the author describes how he created a robot to blast his resume and cover letter at high volume into the online application abyss. He even set it up so that these documents were auto-customized (to comply the traditional belief that generic applications aren’t effective). The results were not good.
The online application process has been automated and sterilized. I invite any international student still investing their precious job search time in applying online to read the article, and explain why they think they can accomplish what this robot couldn’t!
What do you think?
